Skin Health Assessment

Healthy skin for everyone

Here at The Skin Clinic, the health of your skin is our priority. There are many reasons why your skin does not look, and feel, the way you think it should. Exposure to UV in our harsh Queensland sun, acne, rosacea, pregnancy, skin cancers, medications, chemotherapy, and many other factors play a role in how it affects your skin. We can work with you to manage your skin, in most cases without the need for antibiotics or hormones. We have had great success with topical treatments as well as the use of peels and microneedling to improve certain skin conditions like acne, as well as general skin texture. The use of certain products like Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) and retinols (Vitamin A) can be used to combat the signs of sun related damage. We have the ability to compound bespoke products to suit your needs. We believe every skin type is unique, and should be treated individually, and with care.

If you are interested in our skin health assessments, please let us know when you book so we can allocate the appropriate amount of time to discuss your management and tailor a plan for you.

Acne

Acne is a multifactorial condition, often causing angst, with genetics playing a significant role in its development. Other risk factors include diet, lifestyle, hormones, pregnancy, and even the use of the wrong products, i.e. comedogenic products, that exacerbate the condition. There is a spectrum of the condition, ranging from mild black heads and white heads, to severe cases of cystic acne, which can also occur on other parts of the body. We can tailor a plan to help you, sometimes with the assistance of prescription medication. However, we have had success with a combination of topical products, micro needling, and peels, without the need for any oral prescription medication. Ask us how. The path to healing can be a long one, but we will be here each step of the way.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a persistent inflammatory condition on the face, resulting in red cheeks, sometimes with large pustules on the nose and mid face. The cause for rosacea is largely unknown, but we do know that there are many things that flare up this sometimes, painful condition. These include, heat, UV exposure, certain foods, alcohol, menopause, use of certain products like steroids, and also a mite called Demodex. Sometimes, the use of anti aging products can exacerbate the condition. Some small scale studies have even found that Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) have an increased prevalence in rosacea. We can help with formulating a plan to minimise the flare ups of this condition.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation on the face is caused by many things, but most commonly are freckles, moles, age spots, scarring, acne, melasma, or in some cases, even melanoma. Some causes of pigmentation are easier to treat than others, and we utilise a combination of modalities to help. These include a combination of microneedling, peels, topical prescription creams, and or laser. Not everyone is suited to all or any of the treatments. Some skin types will not do well with either micro needling, laser or a deep peel as it can result in scarring, or a condition called Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH), which makes the pigmentation worse. It is advisable that before you go ahead with any treatment, you get a skin cancer check, and then we can discuss some options that will suit your skin type.

Skin Rejuvenation

Aging is a natural part of life, and should be celebrated as a privilege. We can assist with the process of aging gracefully. This begins with the daily usage of sunscreen, the number 1 anti aging product on the planet. Ageing skin looks the way it does partly due to the loss of collagen over time, which is accelerated as a result of UV exposure. UVA in particular is responsible for cellular damage, loss of collagen and wrinkling. Not to mention, the risk of skin cancer. Anti aging products are a veritable mine field. What works? When should we start using it? Who should start using it? Why should we even bother? How do we know what to look for? We have had great results with a combination of the right products, as well as micro needling and radiofrequency to stimulate collagen production, and the use of peels to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Come talk to us and let us help you navigate through, and tailor a plan unique to you.
